10 Podcasts for Writers

Where do you get most of your writing and business-related tips? If you're anything like me, you probably spend a lot of time reading books and blog posts. But sometimes you just want to give your eyes a rest or keep the information flowing even when you're out and about.

That's where podcasts come in. You can listen to them anywhere, making them incredibly convenient. If you're not already a regular podcast listener, I've put together a list of ten podcasts for writers to get you started.

Here are those podcasts, along with links to a sample episode from each. These aren't ranked in any way. They're included in alphabetical order.

Enjoy!

1. AuthorMBA Podcast

The AuthorMBA Podcast, with Matt Gartland, features interviews and conversations about the business side of publishing books.

Listen: Jason (SurfrApp) Sadler: Creativity for Sale

2. The Creative Penn Podcast

This podcast from Joanna Penn explores writing, publishing, and marketing your books.

Listen: Getting Your Self-Published Book Into Bookstores and Libraries with Debbie Young

3. The Fizzle Show

This podcast isn't specifically for writers, but rather "creative entrepreneurs." But writers can learn a lot from its hosts. Topics that might be of interest to writers include blogging, content marketing, and product launches.

Listen: 27 Ways to Stumble on Unbeatable Content Ideas

4. Grammar Girl Podcast

I'm sure Mignon Flaherty needs no introduction here. Her podcast lets you listen to some of her advice and get your grammar questions answered on-the-go.

Listen: Is Starting a Sentence With 'So' Condescending?

5. Helping Writers Become Authors

In K.M. Weiland's podcast, you'll find audio versions of some of her blog posts where she delves into various aspects of writing fiction.

Listen: How Much Realism Does Your Novel REALLY Need?

6. High-Income Business Writing

Ed Gandia's High-Income Business Writing podcast helps freelancers make more money and land better clients.

Listen: The Messy Road to Better-Paying Clients

7. A Little Bird Told Me

It looks like this one hasn't been updated since last fall, but spend some time listening to archived episodes. It's one of the few podcasts specific to freelance writers, and it's run by Philippa Willitts and Lorrie Hartshorn.

Listen: How to Justify Higher Freelancing Rates

8. The Smart Passive Income Podcast

This podcast, from Pat Flynn, is one of the first I subscribed to. And it's always getting better. It's a business podcast, not specific to writers, but you'll find tons of great information that can help you grow your blog, freelance writing business, or indie publishing business.

Listen: Booking Yourself Solid: The Sales Process, Pricing, and More With Michael Port

9. Writer 2.0 Podcast

A.C. Fuller's Writer 2.0 podcast explores writing, the publishing industry, and books.

Listen: All About Agents, with Chuck Sambuchino and Gordon Warnock

10. Writing Excuses

The Writing Excuses podcast features fast-paced conversations on writing, in 15-minute episodes.

Listen: The Worldbuilding Revolves Around Me ("The Magical 1%")

I hope you give some of these shows a listen and find at least one or two that are a good fit to help you improve your writing, or your business.

Don't forget, All Indie Writers has a podcast of its own. It's still fairly new, launched in 2014. The 12th episode will be released later this week. In the meantime, here are a few episodes you can check out:
